From Movement to Reflection: A Mid-Year Check-In with the Fire Horse

The Chinese New Year began on February 17, ushering in the dynamic energy of the Year of the Fire Horse.

Now that we've galloped through seven months of the Fire Horse, I thought it might be helpful to pause for a quick check-in.

From Reflection to Movement

The transition from the Wood Snake to the Fire Horse has felt like a dramatic shift in energy. The Snake invited us into intuition, quiet growth, discernment, and steady transformation. The Fire Horse brings something very different: movement, bold expression, emotion, action, and momentum.

You can learn more about the themes and traits of the Year of the Fire Horse here.

For me, the past seven months have been a lot.

My family and I have experienced great highs and devastating lows, and I've often felt like I've simply been galloping through it all. Everything has felt fast, intense, and sometimes a little overwhelming.

In the past seven months alone, I've...

  • Become a grandmother.

  • Lost loved ones.

  • Helped my children navigate big moves and transitions.

  • Navigated natural disasters, including flooding and extreme heat.

  • Attended a life-changing spiritual retreat in Peru.

  • Checked personal items off my bucket list.

Many of these things happened in quick succession or even overlapped with one another.

The fire has burned hot and fast.

I've found myself needing to step back and re-evaluate my boundaries, my goals, and what I'm giving my energy to. I want to stay grounded in mindfulness and alignment so I can move alongside the energy of the Fire Horse rather than simply react to its unbridled momentum.

Maybe you've felt some of this, too.

A Mid-Year Check-In

Take a moment to ask yourself:

  • Where has life felt fast, intense, or demanding this year?

  • What has been fueling my momentum?

  • What have I discovered I really want?

  • Where am I ready to choose myself?

  • What am I carrying that has become too heavy?

You don't have to have all the answers. Sometimes simply pausing long enough to notice what's happening is the first step toward finding your next direction.

What resonates with you? Where might you create a little more space for mindfulness?

When boldness is balanced with mindfulness, the Fire Horse can become a powerful catalyst for growth, resilience, and wholehearted wellbeing.

The invitation is not to stop moving. It's to move with intention.

Can you trust your inner spark while also tending to your emotional and physical reserves?

May you run toward what enlivens you and rein in what exhausts you.
