Cultivating Creativity

We have always known that cultivating creativity is good for problem-solving, motivation, and career growth. Research also suggests when you express your creativity, you'll experience greater well-being and happiness. And who doesn't want more of that?

For some, creativity may seem out of reach—reserved only for those who paint or sculpt or play a musical instrument. But creativity is actually something all of us can access. In fact, any job (or anyone!) can benefit from creative thinking, and any person can express creativity in their own way.

Balanced Soul is offering a book club on The Artist's Way, written by Julia Cameron. This powerfully provocative and inspiring book takes us on an incredible journey to discover the link between our spiritual and creative selves. An international bestseller, it has inspired millions of people to overcome limiting beliefs and fears that inhibit the creative process. Cameron's book is a gateway and tool for cultivating creativity, personal growth, change, and an invaluable guide to living a fulfilling life.

The book includes a workbook called "Morning Pages" that takes the reader through a journey of creative activities designed to overcome blocks, bad habits, and inhibitions relating to the creative process. The Artist's Way and "Morning Pages" journal are designed to set our creativity free and encourage our rational side to take a back seat.

What you can expect to explore on your 6-week Balanced Soul experience with The Artist's Way:

  1. Creativity = Spirituality. Learn about how the cycle of life is made of pure creative energy, and creativity is a spiritual reaction to creativity.

  2. Writing in the Morning Pages Journal will help you sort out and organize what you are processing in your mind. You will begin to express your dreams, aspirations, repetitive issues, and desires for life. Journaling in the Morning Pages can become a new form of meditation.

  3. During our journey, you will understand the "ghost artist," "inner censor," and the "Buzzkill Sabotager."

  4. Have fun saying "yes" to opportunities. Be curious and embrace creative fun.

  5. You will create a dream folder. Sounds fun, right?

  6. Release your inner perfectionist. Perfectionism prevents us from moving forward, blocks inspiration, and prevents us from starting and finishing projects.

  7. Put synchronicity in motion. Once we let our creativity out, we open the door to more spiritual energy. The universe loves creative energy, and it begins to lend a hand to more creative projects.

  8. Take yourself on an artist date! Once a week, we encourage you to have an experience that feeds your creative conscious and inner artist.

Here are some artist date ideas:

  • Go to a movie

  • Have a coffee on a terrace while reading a book

  • Spend some time in an art supply store

  • Go on a forest bath

  • Wander through an art gallery

  • Dip your feet in the ocean

  • Go to the library

  • Ride a bike

  • Color in a coloring book
