Spirit Horse Wisdom
“At it’s finest, rider and horse are joined not by tack, but by trust. Each is totally reliant upon the other. Each is the selfless guardian of the other’s well-being.” – Unknown
Horses are kind, social creatures. They represent feminine energy and the igniting of creativity. These spirited creatures have galloped through many of our ancient myths, favorite childhood stories, wishes, dreams and drawings. This historic relationship has given humans and horses a woven, interconnected bond. Horses help us to recover the beauty, power, and nobility of our own spirit.
As animals that are seen as prey in nature, horses need to see all emotions as information. Unlike humans, horses refrain from suppressing their dark feelings. Horses recognize when another herd member is afraid, playful, angry, boisterous, depressed, or resting peacefully. Secure horses, like well-adjusted people, eventually become experts at “emotional agility,” the ability to get the message behind the emotion, adjust behavior, relationship, or environment accordingly, and then let go and return to homeostasis. Many humans get caught in the vicious cycle of suppressing and inappropriately expressing unwanted or socially unacceptable feelings. Horses recognize and respond to the true feeling behind the façade.
Horses are acoustic beings. They live instinctively, tuning into the vibrations around them. In the wild, horses would die without their honed skill of sensing activities, weather, animals, and the intentions of those around them. In their natural environment, horses’ brain waves are consistently slower than those of humans. Human brainwave states run faster and are not conducive to rest, healing, and rejuvenation. We need to slow down and be more horse-like!
Living on the physical earth in a dramatically different way from humans, horses offer a unique perspective. Following their lead provides a pathway home to absolute knowing and trust of our bodies and inner selves. The lessons we can learn from horses are truly invaluable, inspiring us to delve deeper into our own understanding.
We hope you’ll be able to join us for an upcoming Spirit Horse retreat, a unique opportunity to experience a profound connection to your inner vitality and creativity through the presence of a small herd of masterful equine spirits. These wise beings have so much to teach us. If you would like to receive more information about future retreats and opportunities, please email Jenny.
When someone learns how to be more horse-like in mind and body, they experience life at a frequency at which they can connect with and understand the spiritual world. An eased sense of being more present helps us reduce our stress levels, and we can then feel a deeper connection to our world and the people we love. Modern life has estranged us from our sacred connection with nature. When we write down our thoughts or observations, we can process the information more clearly in our minds and build more connections. The more ways you process your experience—visual, written, auditory, kinesthetic—the more vividly you can remember it.
Without a nature journal, we must rely on our memory, which can get fuzzy and leave out beautiful details. During our upcoming Forest Bathing event - Journaling Among the Trees, we will relish in the Joy of Tiny Things – discovering the smallest gifts from the forest, a delightful experience that will fill you with a sense of wonder and appreciation and end with a tea ceremony. Sign up early. Spots are limited.
Here’s to living a harmonious life,
Jenny
The joy of the holidays is often overshadowed by the pressure of advertising and commercialization, which seems to ramp up as early as the day after Halloween. Christmas, in particular, has become wrapped in an anxious tension to create the "perfect" holiday experience for family and friends. As the season approaches, we're bombarded with ads, social media posts, and movies that set unrealistic expectations around gift-giving and celebrations. This can quickly lead to stress and financial strain.
