Six Quick Ways to Ward off the Blues

Whether you are stressed, feeling overwhelmed, or the world feels like it is on repeat, sometimes the blues can sneak up on you. If you do not work to overcome this feeling, you may find yourself slipping into a depressive state. Here are six things you can try to perk up your mood and return to feeling like your regular self.

  1. Clean your Room: Clean your room, house, car, or office! Clean anything you can control to give you a sense of hope and a bit of exercise.

  2. Exercise: Speaking of exercise, use that body and get out of your head. Do something physical makes you sweat. Go for a walk or run or take a class to get those endorphins pumping. And if you can exercise outside – even better!

  3. Get Outside: Try to get outside every day. Enjoy and appreciate nature. Try watching birds at a feeder, smelling flowers, soaking up the sun, or marveling at the stars.

  4. Make Some Cuts: Cut out anything your use to cope. This may include junk food, alcohol, or pot.

  5. Reduce Screen Time: Anything you are doing where you are staring at a screen for hours on end can mess with your head. This includes being on social media, video games, or binging Netflix.

  6. Take Care of Yourself: It’s important to take care of yourself physically daily. Take a shower, brush your hair, brush your teeth, put on a smile, and present yourself to the mirror! Take pride in yourself, and your mood will improve.
